The area around Bandol is famous in art, history, wines and
cuisine. Aix-en-Provence and Avignon, with their
Opera and Theatre festivals festival-aix are easily in range of
day/evening trips.
To the east St. Tropez, Antibes, Nice and Monte Carlo are easily reachable by car or train from Bandol. The Galerie Maeght in St. Paul de Vence near Nice is one of the fabled venues of modern art. Bandol has a number of well known vineyards, including Domaine du Tempier and Pibarnon, both near the house. There are wine-tasting booths in town, and we can also advise as to where to find rather high quality bulk wine for daily use. Bandol has a daily morning market, and the weekly traveling market comes on Tuesdays. It is especially big in the next town of St. Cyr on Sundays. There are plesant walks in back of the house, and with a little uphill effort, spectacular views: Eagles Beak, La Ciotat. Marseille and the Camargue, with its gypsy festival and wild horses are nearby. Toulon with its harbor and navy base is an historic and interesting town. |  The Port in Bandol |
