The Villa Chene
Vert is located
in one of the most beautiful spots on the
Mediterranean coast, near Bandol, a wine and
fishing town
between Marseille
and Toulon, the center of a region famed for
its wines and easy lifestyle. The
house is on a hill with beautiful sea views.
The garden has lavender,
almond and olive trees. Vineyards are
back of the house.
There is a double-size living room with fireplace whose south walls are glass sliding bays opening towards the sea. There is a large terrace towards the sea which is the usual dining area in good weather--that is most of the year. Otherwise one may use the indoor dining area. It has a full and well-equipped kitchen. There are two bedrooms, one with twin beds and one with a double bed. The WC and salle d'eaux are separate. For swimming there is our large (5x10 meters) private pool and several nearby sandy beaches and a pretty calanque (rocky cove ) for swimming off the rocks and skin diving. Near the calanque there is the wild coast with breathtaking views and fascinating hikes. Bandol is famous for wine and food . Visits to the vineyards are possible. The beautiful marketplace has fresh fish from the Bandol fishermen and produce from the local growers. Almonds, seafood, olives, peaches and apricots are among the local specialites. The weather is generally mild. There is the light of Cezanne and the colors of the impressionists. The lavender is at the door and there are almond blossoms and mimosa in the winter. The interesting medieval villages of La Cadiere and Le Castellet are in the nearby back country. Aix-en-Provence is not far. Avignon, Nice, Cannes, and the rest of the Cote d'Azur are a bit further but within range for day trips. There is tennis and a well-known tennis school in Bandol. For golf we are a quarter mile from the renowned Golf de la Fregate, one of the most beautiful greens in all of Europe. Walks on the cliffs along the sea or in the back country are beautiful and interesting. In addition to the living room, the other rooms also have the glass sliding bays. Central oil heating when necessary in winter. A small private meditation area with a sculpture and a view over the bay of Bandol is entered from the main bedroom. Shade is provided by a large, old, live oak tree, a Chene Vert . |
